Art in 5G...

Scratched Art

Sometimes creating Art can be about  removing colour, not adding it in order to reveal a personal design. This was the case when 5G attempted to scratch away the black paint from this coloured card beneath. Their instructions were to try to scratch a design that was inspired by a maze.

They look brilliant in our classroom!
Holey Art

Not Holy Art, Hole-y Art. It's special because it can only be viewed in the mornings in 5G because that's when the light streams in from the east, coming in through the pin prick holes made by the students in the shape of their name and an item that is special to them.

The students used push pins, cardboard and they made these while lying on the carpet. It's really effective when it is up on the window.
Claude Monet

5G learnt about the life and world of Claude Monet, the famous French impressionist painter.

All the students were asked to re-create his work, 'Twilight' using small, repeated brush strokes and blending techniques.

I think they did a terrific job!
Vincent Van Gogh

After learning about the tragic life led by Vincent Van Gogh and looking at the impressionistic style of his paintings, 5G were asked to recreate the background sky of his famous piece, 'Starry Night'.

The black church tower in the foreground was copied and glued onto their original backgrounds.

Magnificent attempts by all in 5G.
Wassily Kandinsky

We briefly explored the expressionist artist, Kandinsky in 5G during Term 2, 2013. Each student was asked to interpret his circles work using black brennex squares and oil pastels.

Pretty fantastic result. The students in 5G then did this activity with their 2G buddies in a shared Art lesson with much success.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Have you ever researched Hundertwasser? You are in for a treat if you haven't because his architecture and artworks are a sight to behold. Go on, google Hundertwasser now!

5G spent lots of time in 2012 exploring his techniques and use of colour and shapes. This is a large display we created as a result.
"The 'earth' without 'art' is just 'eh'."

Fathers Day Mousepads

What do you get a dad who has everything on Fathers Day? A personalised mousepad of course!

5G decorated some mousepads using permanent textas to create custom gifts for their fathers last Fathers Day. They had to carefully plan their designs as we all know permanent means permanent, especially on a material such as this.

Great job 5G-ers!
Newspaper Sculpture

In second semester 2013, the students in 5G were busy designing, creating and evaluating a free choice newspaper sculpture. They were allowed a small amount of sticky tape, popsticks or cardboard but all projects were mostly created using newspaper and pva glue. The design and problem-solving process as well as the final products were used for assessment and some have been chosen for our upcoming OLA Art Exhibition. These videos were photos edited in Aviary and narration recorded using SonicPics on the ipads. Congratulations 5G!
Lines & Colours Art

Some of the ways colours and lines interweave is very interesting and can create a variety of effects. In Term 1 of 2014 5G explored how this type of Art can be produced and changed. We hope you enjoy our pieces- we worked very hard to achieve them!
